Calling all Superheroes
We are delighted with the announcement by the Comrades Marathon Association that the running of the world’s biggest, oldest and most famous ultramarathon will take place on Sunday, 28 August 2022. This means that long distance runners who are passionate about Community Chest and the beneficiaries we support, will be able to sign up to Race4Charity and select us to raise funds for.
Once you have registered to run the 2022 Comrades Marathon, simply sign up on Race4Charity and help us to feed and educate 6 000 children at 32 Early Childhood Development Centres throughout KwaZulu-Natal. If you raise R6 000 or more, you will be able to start the Comrades in C Batch as well as receive a Community Chest goodie bag.
The first five years of a child's life is essential for social and intellectual development and play is a critical part of this development. Play is how children learn to socialise, to think, to solve problems, to mature and most importantly, to have fun.
Every child needs varied and quality early childhood development from birth to age five. During this age, rapid development (physical, cognitive and emotional) takes place, and this development is crucial in readying children for school. Children who are ready for school will be friendly, confident, and social; they will have good peer relationships, language skills and they will communicate well. School-ready children will be less likely to fail a grade and will perform better overall.
Every rand invested in meaningful early childhood development for disadvantaged children produces a 7 to 10 percent return, per child, per year, in increased productivity and reduced social spending.
